Jon Gottesman, Ph.D.
Dr. Gottesman received his A.B. degree in Psychobiology from Oberlin College. He did post baccalaureate research in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan and obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota studying the neurophysiology of the retina.
Following postdoctoral training, Jon was on the faculty of the Departments of Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He served as a member of Minnesota's Graduate Program in Neuroscience where he continued research on the retina using neurophysiological, pharmacological and computational approaches. He taught courses in Computational and Visual Neuroscience and was director of the retina module for the Life Sciences Undergraduate Research Programs neuroscience course.
Dr. Gottesman directed the creation a new course in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience titled, "Career Skills and Understanding Your Responsibilities as a Scientist", which serves to prepare students for their careers after graduate school.
He is now engaged in assisting and advocating for undergraduate students who are considering graduate training. He likes to answer student questions and have them consider questions he poses to them. He welcomes your email.
ORBS Program Assistant
Lori Manning
Lori Manning joined the Office of Recruiting for the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program in July 2007 as the Program Assistant. Her most recent position at the University of Minnesota was at the School of Social Work on the St. Paul campus. The state-funded project provided training to child protection workers in all 87 counties and 11 tribal agencies. She has also worked many years in administration within the public school system in Minnesota and California.
Ms. Manning is currently working on her undergraduate degree, majoring in American Indian Studies. She has earned certificates as a Master Gardener and a Master Naturalist, and is currently completing a Therapeutic Horticulture certificate from the University of Minnesota. She is a member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
